Our home has a profound impact on our wellbeing – now more than ever. If you and your family are self-isolating, working from home, homeschooling your children, or caring for a vulnerable family member, you are spending a LOT more time inside your home than ever before.

Use this time of self-isolation as an opportunity to see what is working and what isn’t in every nook and cranny of your house. Use this time to change things up and do a little bit of the Spring cleaning you have been putting off.

This Spring I want to share with you our 10 best Spring home ideas during Covid-19. These ideas are inexpensive (some free!), and easy DIY projects that will help make your home feel like a safe oasis during these turbulent and uncertain times.

Freshen and Clean the Front Entrance – create a “clean hands” station right at or near the front door. Use a colorful tray as a base, and then add a bottle of hand sanitizer, a box of tissues, and a small wastebasket close by to dispose of used tissues. Clean all surfaces such as door handles and light switches daily. Declutter and clean out the front hall closet so everything has a place. Is there room for a colorful bench or a chair? A new piece of bright artwork?
Fresh Blooms – add colour and freshness to every room in the house – Spring tulips, freesia, lilac (which you may soon have growing on your hedge in the backyard), daisies, and daffodils. A vase full of spring blooms at the front entrance makes the whole space feel special.
Declutter – closets, kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and kids rooms (the kids can help with this and organize their stuff into baskets or colorful bins).
Home Office – make sure your home office has good lighting. You may need task lighting in the form of a desk lamp if the overhead light in the room is behind you. There are lots of great options online, especially slim line LED lamps.
Kitchen – (FREE!) while you are decluttering the kitchen, pull out that large, colorful bowl or platter you brought back from Mexico. Put it out on your freshly cleaned countertop and fill it with lots of the fresh fruit you have in the refrigerator. The fruit and the bowl look beautiful and it keeps healthy food options top of mind and close at hand.
Living Room – In a living room with lots of neutrals, add a modern area rug with muted soft field colours and pops of brighter hues on top. This will give the entire space a fresh new vibe. There are even some new area rugs that are pet-friendly and machine washable.
Fun Accents – now that you have added an area rug to your living room with the soft grey sofa and paint, it’s time to kick it up a notch! Brighten with inexpensive throw pillows. Pick up the trendy new colours in the area rug and their complements – blue and terra cotta, pink and apple green, mauve and yellow. Order online at wayfair.ca or overstock.ca – lots of different sizes and textures.
Yellow Works Anywhere! – and it’ll make you happy!
Create A Cozy Corner – a reading nook or small private space is necessary during this time when we are all together under one roof all of the time. Make sure the space has a comfy chair, natural light and a floor lamp, small table for coffee, a shelf for books and a warm throw.
Artwork – go ahead, be bold and make your space beautiful and special! Browse art at thinkcanvasco.com, and thestylehabitat.com.

To you and your families, take care and stay safe and healthy.
